Vishay Introduces Automotive-Grade PIN Photodiodes, Down to 0.7 mm Height, Improves Signal-to-Noise Ratio

MALVERN, PA — September 28, 2020 — Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today announced a new surface mount automotive-grade silicon PIN photodiode in a 0805 form factor with a height of just 0.7 mm — 0.15 mm lower than previous generation devices. Vishay Semiconductors VEMD4010X01 and VEMD4110X01 are available in black packages with opaque sidewalls to eliminate unwanted sidelight and improve signal-to-noise ratio.

The recently released photodiodes are AEC-Q101 qualified for light detection in a variety of applications including sunlight load sensors, automotive rain, daylight and tunnel sensors, elevators, garage doors, industrial equipment light curtains, contactless faucets, toilets and Trash can reflective sensor. The VEMD4010X01 detects visible and near-infrared radiation with a sensitivity range of 550 nm to 1040 nm. The VEMD4110X01 is for 740 nm to 1040 nm IR applications with a blocking filter to match 830 nm to 950 nm IR emitters.

The high-sensitivity device has a photosensitive area of ​​0.42 mm2, a reverse photocurrent of 2.4 µA, and a dark current as low as 1 nA. The VEMD4010X01 and VEMD4110X01 have fast response times, a half-intensity angle of ± 60°, an operating temperature of -40 °C to +110 °C, and a peak sensitivity wavelength of 910 nm. The photodiodes are RoHS and Vishay Green compliant, halogen free, Moisture Sensitivity Level (MSL) 3 to J-STD-020, 168 hours unpacked.

Samples and production quantities of the VEMD4010X01 and VEMD4110X01 are available now, with lead times of 10 weeks for bulk quantities.
